IWOSC SEMINAR: Saturday, January 20
10:30 AM – 1:00 PM
Today’s effective professional writers use the Internet as both a tool and a
marketplace. Learn how at IWOSC’s January Saturday Seminar, when iMedia
Editor in Chief Brad Berens discusses writing for the Internet, and Internet
marketing expert Cliff Allen speaks about webmastering.
The workshop will cover the differences between writing online and off; site
metrics and how they inform editorial decisions; how to design, implement
and manage a website; tips on creating a good website; and personalization,
e-mail marketing, and data mining. In addition, Berens will talk about
iMedia’s current needs and its marketplace for freelancers, including his
freelance budget.
Brad Berens is an editor, writer, critic, public speaker, and thinker –
mostly about media (new and old), culture (high and low), marketing
(traditional and interactive), and how what audiences do with the things
they watch have a huge impact on who they are.

If you have not heard about the moving documentary ‘Invisible Children’, you really should run out and find it. It has recently earned a distribution deal with Starbuck’s Coffee (of all places) so you must be able to find a copy in one of their many stores around the world. Or, go the website and buy the DVD.
The film offers up a candid look at the horrific conditions of many innocent children living in Uganda. Animalistic rebel fighters capture these children and then they are forced to torture others. It is kill or be killed. These children are malnourished, mutilated, beaten, and raped.
We must do something! This situation has been going on for over 20 years. At the very least, as people living in the US, we should view the video, visit the website www.invisiblechildren.com to see what else you can do, donate your resources/time, write to the State Department, Congress, and the Secretary of State. Other information may be found at www.ugandacan.org, and www.child-soldier.org.
Senseless violence is never right, and it is even more wrong when it touches the lives of innocent children.
